Callling all Writers to LITHUANIA!

M. M. De Voe has just accepted the position of co-director for the SLS Seminar in Lithuania! Website will be launched soon–but in the meantime, look over the guidelines for the Summer Literary Seminar’s Writing Contest! Winner gets a full scholarship to any of the four SLS Seminar locations: St. Petersburg, Kenya, Italy, and now: Lithuania!! The two week writing seminar will be held in Vilnius, which has an old town to rival any in Europe, and a third week extension will allow for a week in Nida, famous for its white sand dunes and vast lonely beaches.

Faculty on the North-American side is a truly great, star-studded one:

David Bezmozgis (Toronto, Canada), MM De Voe (New York), Joe Kertes (Toronto), Phillip Lopate (NY), Erin Moure (Montreal, Canada), Antanas Sileika (Toronto), Laima Sruoginis (Maine-Vilnius), Catherine Tice (NY; the New York Review of Books publisher), and Lynne Tillman (NY) — plus several illustrious people as lecturers.

SLS Seminar in Russia

M. M. De Voe, along with fellow New York area authors Matt McHugh and Mary Robinette Kowal, has been invited to read at KGB Bar this summer.

Thursday, July 24th at 7pm, join them at the famous literary location, where they will read from the anthology “The Best of The First Line: Editors’ Picks: 2002-2006.” For more info click here. This marks the second KGB appearance for Ms. De Voe; the last one was standing room only! Come early and bring your friends!

Now available at your local bookstore — or on the "shop" page of this website — the just-released anthology: THE BEST OF THE FIRST LINE, EDITORS’ PICKS 2002-2006. "Dulce Domum," by M. M. De Voe represents the Editors’ Pick for Fall 2006.

Just got word that The Best of the First Line — Editors’ Picks: 2002-2006 is almost here. Publication date is Mid-March. The anthology (ISBN: 978-0-9745900-6-6) contains 23 stories of which one is “Dulce Domum” by M. M. De Voe — the editor’s choice for Winter 2006.

The veil of secrecy is lifted…
The three editors of THE FIRST LINE picked one story from each of the issues for which they created a sentence (recall–TFL is a journal which gives a first line and then authors must finish the story) beginning with Vol 4 Issue 1 and ending with Vol 8 Issue 4. Then each picked a second story from Vol 6 Iss 1, Vol 8 Iss 1, and Vol 8 Iss 2 — the sentences that won The TFL First Line contests. As a result, THE BEST OF THE FIRST LINE: Editors’ Choice 2002 - 2006 was created. This collection of 23 stories will be released March 2008, as part of TFL’s tenth anniversary celebration.

M. M. De Voe’s story, “Dulce Domum” which previously received a Pushcart Nomination, has been selected for inclusion in this anthology. This marks the second “Editor’s Choice Award” for M. M. DeVoe. The first was for “Keep Watch” in the summer of 2007. Ask for THE BEST OF THE FIRST LINE: Editors’ Choice 2002 - 2006 in local bookstores that carry literary journals!

The editor of a publication that published an M. M. De Voe short story in 2006 has just announced that the story was selected for inclusion in their upcoming BEST OF ( — top secret — ) ANTHOLOGY! M. M.’s story was one of twenty or so selected for inclusion from the past five years of ( — top secret—)’s publication, and will be the second such anthology (—top secret—) has produced. The volume is expected to hit bookstores in March 2008. The veil of secrecy will be lifted in mid-November. Watch this space!
