As a writer with two kids also clamoring for her time, De Voe founded the nonprofit group Pen Parentis in 2008. The organization has just been incorporated as Pen Parentis, Ltd by New York State. Its mission remains: to provide resources to authors who are also parents, to keep them on creative track.

Here, De Voe guest-blogs on the national Kidville site with advice for parents with creative careers on how to maintain balance between an active family life and a successful creative career.

A NOTE FROM MM: I normally don’t mention Pen Parentis here. I try to keep this page just for my creative writing. But i wanted to reach out and let you know that at our December 11th event, we lost all our electronic equipment in a power surge at the Andaz Wall Street. (If you are unfamiliar with the organization I founded to provide resources to authors who are also parents, here’s our website) The Andaz has been terrific hosts to us and we love working with them, but they are in Hurricane Zone A and are still struggling to get their facility back to its previously glorious state. Anyway - we lost an amp, a mic/recorder, and a pre-amp, and our volunteer guitar player lost his amp as well. If you would like to help, Pen Parentis is fiscally sponsored by a terrific artist nonprofit called Fractured Atlas. Update on De Voe’s story "Leave Me" -

The beautiful arts journal STONE VOICES has built an entire issue around the subject matter (imprisonment/confinement).

Leave Me, will be published in the Winter 2012 issue of STONE VOICES. The issue goes to print October 20, will be sent to subscribers in late November, and will begin to appear in bookstores around December 4

STONE VOICES which is an offshoot magazine and community of Still Points Arts Quarterly that is dedicated to visual arts and spirituality has just purchased DeVoe’s short story LEAVE ME and will be publishing it in the Fall 2012 issue of the magazine.
